B.A.  ECONOMICS HONORS – 6 SEMESTER (3 YEARS)

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

 With the aim of giving quality education to the rural students, one of the noble subjects in BA degree ‘Economics’ was introduced in our college. ‘Knowledge is power’ is the vision of the department. Knowledge leads to self-realization and thereby an individual can be self-reliant. The quote SwamyVivekananda.

    In peace lies infinite Bliss”.

          In order to have blissful life one should have knowledge. It may be either materialistic or spiritual. Economics as a subject of study helps our students to broaden their knowledge and widen their perspectives on many significant issues pertaining to their everyday living. Economics plays a major role in every man’s life.  Many of our students are self- employed and some of them are working in  companies. A few of them are serving at the state, national and international levels. The department of Economics has been producing very good results every year. Many students have passed with distinction and first class. Large number of our students have done their post graduation studies in various PG centers. The department has motivated many students to get into various professions in India and abroad. Many of our students have become successful businessman, planters, agriculturists, homemakers etc. and have actively involved themselves in various social service activities. 

SUBJECT MATTER OF ECONOMICS

          Though the subject Economics was born with Adam Smith, there were Economic discussions ever since the era of civilization. Economics is not invented by any one. It evolved with the evolution of mankind. Economics developed science, science develops technology and technology created thousands of goods and services, goods and services created wants and wants facilitated trade and commerce   beyond the boundaries of the nation.

          The dynamic subject Economics has travelled far from the days of the study of how goods and services get produced and how they are distributed to a study of a behavioral science in seeking to understand the response which individuals, a group of people or countries make in a given set of circumstances. Economists today investigate and explain the patterns of behavior they observe and are concerned with what if but not with what ought to be. The great depression of 1930’s brought the applicability of Economics into proper perspective. Economics, with its emphasis on mathematics and statistics is also a science affecting human welfare. The Alfred Nobel Memorial prize in Economic Science initiated in 1968 is a tribute to the subject.

          ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

Pass in PUC/10+2 with at least 35% marks in Arts, Commerce and Science Streams in case from any recognized Board/Council.

     To enrich the knowledge in the field of Economics.

     To study the importance of Economics in Economic development.

  • The graduates can take IES (Indian Economic Service)
