History:
History revealsthat achievement, be the lofty or low, are as much the consequence of individual focus as of historical process. Kodagu is the smallest district in Karnataka State in terms of area is next only to Bangalore Urban district, which is blessed with nature’s bounty. Right from the days of the brutish rule, the people of the land generously donated land, money and materials for the construction of the educational institutions. Majority of the high schools, colleges and junior colleges are privately managed.
In 1968, a new era downed, an era dawned with new visions and dreams of higher education through private enterprise which saw the emergence and coming together of men of dreams, with the resourcefulness to convert the dreams into beautiful colleges. The names of the visionaries who founded the Coorg Cauvery Education Society and under its banner changed the educational horizons of Kodagu and carved out a place of repute for Kodagu in the educational map of Karnataka must be recorded for posterity.
The nucleus of the educational institution, the Library was started along with the establishment of the college in 1968. But it is not separate since the college itself was working in a rented building. In 1972, when the college started functioning in its own campus the library was
shifted to a separate room with few chairs and tables along with a minute collection. As the number of students increased the collection also increased. When the Rao Bahadur Mandanna memorial Library building came into existence in 1975, the library was shifted to this building, which was inaugurated by Late Field Marshal General K.M. Kariappa.
The quality of services provided and the satisfaction of the user depends a great deal upon the kind of collections made available. In order to meet the academic and intellectual needs of both students and the teachers, this library is having sufficient and different kinds of reading materials like Text books, Reference books, Dictionaries, encyclopedias, Year Books and Almanacs, Directories, Bibliographical sources, Biographical sources, Geographical sources, Gazetteer, maps and Atlas and other collections.
The library found difficult to satisfy the users because there was no proper place for readers to sit and read. With the help of the gifts, donations and UGC grants the collection of library increased and the library has been shifted to the auditorium. Now the library collection has
reached nearly 50,000 which is considered great achievement. The Library is thus serving its users thirst for knowledge by its good collection.
